Mendip Golf Club’s Turkey Trot event this week was a Texas Scramble, which attracted 84 entrants; the maximum number bearing in mind the restricted daylight hours and the wish to keep some time available for Social Golf.
The winning team of Steven Morris, Ian Perkins and Selwyn Rees came in with an excellent net 57.4. In second place were Nick Cox, Stephen Cox and and Stefan Golledge, with 60.4 and in third place came David Cox, Hugh Glandfield and Chris Roe, with 62.
39 Ladies competed in the nine hole Bowmaker event, with the winners being Caroline Laws, Lulu Carolan and Cora Pavey, with 42 points, Patricia Murphy, Jean Padfield and Val Dixon were second, with 39, and Mary Ainsworth, Elaine Richardson and Margaret Hawker were third, with 33 after countback.
The Seniors held the first of their Winter Team competitions; a four person bowmaker, with 84 competitors taking part. With two, three and four to count on consecutive holes, all players needed to be on top form to have any chance of winning. Successful were the team of Club Captain, Paul Smith, Martin Myers, Alan O’Leary and Andy Parfitt, with 110 points. This was just enough to beat Terry Carter, Hugh Glandfield, Paul Merrett and Nigel Cheshire, who scored 109, with Steve Turner, Philip Moores, Peter Rummings and John Ellis, in third position with the same score, but losing out on countback.
The Pro Shop Longest Drive competition was won by Jack Hayes with Tom Lowe second and Scott Butland third.
