On a sunny but breezy day, Farrington Seniors’ finest turned out for the playing of a Four Ball Better Ball competition off the green tees.

Seventy players participated with varying degrees of success.

A random draw is carried out every week with some teams looking much stronger than others. However, it is often the case that the fancied pairings do not perform as well as might be expected. It’s all on the day, as they say!

Don Perry is the in-form player at the moment. Following his runner-up spot in Division Two off the back tees on Saturday, he continued his fine form by winning the Better Ball competition with his playing partner, Rob Rogers.

With Don scoring successive birdies on holes four and five and Rob scoring a birdie on the tenth, this certainly helped them to an impressive score of 49 points.

In second place were John Palmer and Phil Toogood. An Eagle two on the 14th from Phil gave them a score of 46 points, sadly the pairing ‘blobbed’ the second hole which undoubtedly would have made a difference to the final placings.

In third place were Dave Forshaw and Roger Stone, also with a score of 46 points. Failing to score on the par 3 fifth hole did the damage for this pairing, but Dave nevertheless had a superb round which included no less than four birdies.

On the friendly front after being warmly welcomed to the Kendleshire last week, it was our turn to reciprocate their hospitality.

We were not in a generous mood, winning the match 5.5–1.5. First out were Tony Waldron and Geoff Cabral and they set the ball rolling winning 5&4. Second out were Paul Adams and Rick Clark who halved their encounter. The third pairing of Alan Smith and Mike Hedges won 3&2 with Mike now on an unbeaten five match run. Next out were Dave Forshaw and Pete Barnes, winning 5&4 with Pete also on a similar run to Mike Hedges. The pairing of Pete Maule and Ray Guthrie lost a close match 3&1. The penultimate pairing of the Phil’s – Thompson and Toogood were just that and won 5&4 and the last pairing of Roger Stone and Dave Millington won 4&3.
