ONE hundred and 25 men played in Mendip Golf Club’s Stephenson Cup which saw a win in Div 3 for Grant Jeffery with 43 points, well clear of Ryan Davis (39 points) with Mark George 3rd with 36.

Div 2 went to Tony Logan with 41 with Ham Ridene 2nd with 40 and Matt Horler 3rd with 39. Div 1 was won by Jonathan Watts with 39 with Rob Edney 2nd with 36 after countback from Spencer Pocock However, the winner of the trophy was Andy Parfitt with an amazing 48 points (reduced to 46 to comply with the maximum handicap rule), an outstanding score rewarded with a significant handicap reduction. The gross winner was Wayne Black with 71 with Ben Cox 2nd with 76.

Seventeen pairs contested the Ladies American Foursomes which saw a fine performance from Isobel Panton and Linda Papadopoullos to win with 45 points. In 2nd place came Jenny Merrett & Edwina Willis with 42 and Nola Russell & Chris Williams were 3rd with 41, after countback from Penny Oliver & Diane Stanton.

The Ladies Stableford saw some fine scoring with a win in Div 1 for Edwina Willis with 41 points, Lizzie Wood, on the eve of her hip operation, won Div 2 with 42 points and Div 3 went to Rebecca Edwards with 43 points However, the overall winner with 44 points was Lally Gibson.

The 2nd round of the Duchess Cup, a three event affair each over 9 holes for ‘elder’ Ladies, saw a win for Chris Olds with 21 points after countback from Andrea Williams with Elaine Richardson 3rd with 20 after countback from Ann Hopkins. After 2 rounds Elaine Richardson leads with 40 points, Andrea Williams 2nd with 38 and Chris Williams 3rd with 34. The final event is in August.

The Alliance A team enjoyed a fine win away to Wedmore 10-4, wins coming from Aimee Sawyer, Ellen Reakes, Jinhee Page, Lena Warren and Fran Davies. The ICL team also ejoyed a good result, beating Enmore 5½-1½ - wins from Susy Rudkin, Lally Gibson ,Anita Butcher, Ann Padley and Ali Kay with a half from Carol King.

The latest Wednesday Social Golf event was a 2 ball Texas Scramble won by Suzie Howe and Tony Logan with a net 34, after countback from Chris and Harper Howerd.

The Mixed team had a fine win over Tidworth 5-1, points coming from Jinhee Page & Keith Gadsden, Linda Papadopoullos & Steve Ball, Elaine & Rob Richardson, Isobel & Paul Panton and Rosemary Brown & John Ward.

Mendip’s Seniors had a good win in the quarter finals of the Somerset Bowl, beating Stockwood Vale 3½-1½. Wins from Chris Lindley/Ken Webster, Kevin Keene/Nick White and Steve Davis/Simon Wynn with a half from Gary Quin/Simon Atkinson.

Seventy-one visited Lyme Regis for the Senior Captain’s Away Day. Unfortunately, Paul Wood, Seniors captain and master organiser of the event, was unable to attend following his wife Lizzie’s recent hip operation. The winning team with 90 points was David Jukes, Tony Scott, Steve Davis and Robert Miller with in 2nd place with 86 points Phil Bendall, Colin Davies, Steve Smith and Simon Brand, after countback from Terry Carter, Paul Merrett, Mike Snaith and Hugh Glandfield. The individual event went to David Jukes with a very impressive 3 over par gross giving him 38 points and a handicap reduction!
