Members of the Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club dominated their annual Open Day with Club Captain, John Appleton, top of the pile with a Stableford total of 42 points. It earned him the Colin Eaton Cup as the best home competitor. Roger Ashton, from Mendip Golf Club, was the top visitor with 40 points.
Geoff Hallett, from Fosseway, had a profitable day, finishing top of the 0–18 handicap section and also winning theatre tickets after finishing nearest the pin on the fourteenth hole. Mike Ricketts, a fellow member was second with John Bendle (Fosseway) third.
Abe Fukuyama prevented another Fosseway domination in the 19–28 handicap section, coming in third with Open joint organiser, Terry Button, top with forty points, nudging out Bob Smith on countback.
It was a Fosseway one, two, three in the Over-70s group with Allen Cheney (39 points) beating second-placed Reg Curtis on countback with his brother, Jack Curtis, third.
The top triple grouping were Ricketts, Bendle and John Waters. Phil Winsley, from Fosseway, won the prize for the longest drive with Mike Passingham, of Orchardleigh, nearest the pin on the first.
Overall, it was another highly successful event with thanks to Gerry Rowell, Terry Button and Colin Moon and their helpers, notably Edna Shearn and Linda Hallett and the Fosseway groundstaff.
