The months of September and October have proved fruitful for two rookie golfers at

Farrington Park.

Last month, Lesley Mannion won the Committee Cup with playing partner, Marilyn Cass. This month, Lesley entered the Coppers Cup, a competition for Ladies who are ‘new to golf’. This was a Stableford format competition played on the Duchy course and despite the cold and windy conditions, Lesley scored 39 points to win the competition by a good margin over her peers and earned a handicap reduction for herself.

The Patsomes Combined is a new fun competition set up by former Ladies’ Captain, Pat Roscow and consisted of six holes of foursomes, six holes of greensomes and six holes of Four Ball Betterball. After some head scratching and resorting to the calculator to work out the percentages on their WHS handicaps for the three formats, the field of twenty-three pairs accepted the challenge and set out to play on the Duchy course.

Scoring was very good, eleven teams scored 36 points or more and countback had to be used to separate the top teams. Rosi Brown and Lin Papadopoullos scored 40 points to take second place, beating Corrina Bates and Bridget Rylance on countback into third place. The winners were five points clear of the field with a great score of 45 points.

Who were they? None other than the dynamic duo of Marilyn Cass and Lesley Mannion, who won the Patsomes Combined in fine style.
