The second “Major” competition of Farrington Park’s Mixed Section year is the Stilwell Salver, a competition instigated by Clive and Sue Stilwell who were joint Captains in 1994.

Twenty-two teams vied for the Salver, playing a 4 Ball Better Ball Stableford format.

Sunny, breezy weather conditions greeted the players, but nobody was complaining, as it had rained heavily the previous night.

Scoring was hot from the top teams, the early leaders scoring 23 points on the front nine. Fourth-placed team, scoring 42 in total, Rosi Brown and John Ward had a birdie at the par three 5th hole. They were beaten on countback by Corinne and Danny Durbin, who scored consistently throughout their round. Mandy and Steve Hobbs also scored 42 points, but secured second place with a round which included three birdies on the 5th, the par five 13th and the always tricky par four 17th hole.

The winners, Jackie Wilcox and Alan Fussell, scored twenty points on the front nine, including a birdie on the fourth hole by Jackie for five points. However, they bettered this score on the back nine, returning a blistering score of 24 points, including four pars, to win the Stilwell Salver with an outstanding 44 points. Jane Ball
