Firstly, two apologies from last week’s report. The top 32 pairs qualified from the Hodder Cup through to the KO stages, not sixteen as reported. Now the Seniors have identified Ted Brimble as a ‘veteran’ – it was he who won the Veterans’ Division in the last Seniors Competition with a fine 36 points.

The Burnell Cup had a field in excess of 100 playing. A strong easterly wind, with greens now well recovered from their winter work playing very fast, combined to make this event a true test. Division Three was won by John Hargraves, with 35 points, followed by Nigel Hill with 34 and Mike Merrick with 33. Divison Two saw a win for Brian Rawlings, with 36 points, followed by Aaron Mitchell, 35, beating Gary Lenihan on countback. Division One was won by the ever-consistent Tom Lowe, playing off three, who scored 36 points with Keir Carnie second with 35 and Will Waddington third with 34. However, the Winner of the Cup came from Division Two, where James Richards scored 37 points.
