Farrington Park held a Charity Quiz to raise money for the Men’s and Ladies’ sections’ chosen charity for this year, Hannah’s Willberry Wonder Pony.
Hannah Francis sadly lost her life to terminal bone cancer in August 2016. Her toy mascot during her fight against the illness was Willberry Wonder Pony. A great attendance at the evening, with sixteen teams for the quiz and generous raffle prizes, enabled on the night a total of £800 raised for the charity.
Men’s Captain, Shane Phelps, and Ladies’ Captain, Rosi Brown, would like to thank everyone who attended for their support, and special thanks to Julia and Gavin Ball for organising a great quiz, and to Jane Ball and Liz Thomas for their expert selling of raffle tickets.
After the disappointment of a cancelled Ladies’ morning on Thursday, 15th February due to the continuing bad weather, everyone was relieved that the postponed ‘Blind Date’ competition was able to take place on the following Thursday, in honour of St. Valentine.
The competition was an individual Stableford with an added twist. At the end of the day’s play, the players’ names were sorted into three groups according to their handicap of either high, medium or low. From each group, a player’s name was drawn at random to form a team of three, and the aggregate scores were added together. Individual scores had been fairly consistent, so the final ‘team scores’ were close.
First place went to Jane Richardson, Cynthia Miller and Margaret Seery, with a combined score of 97 points. Margaret had scored the highest points individually with 39.
Second place went to Gail Proctor, Sue Forshaw and Linda Rogers, with a total of 93 points. 91 points secured third place for Wendy Butt, Lo Dallocco and Jackie Hobbs.
Two spot birdies were scored by Jane Ball (seventeenth hole), Margaret Seery (fourth), Sue Stilwell (fourth) and Lin Papadopoulos (fifth).
On a bitterly cold day, 32 golfers set out on a brave and hazardous journey to experience the delights of winter golfing at Farrington Park! As a result of the unfavourable conditions, the front five holes were closed but in order to prolong the enjoyment, holes six to nine were played twice, making seventeen holes in all. Thirty players stayed for the meal and three guests also joined us for a very enjoyable carvery.
Our fun competition on Sunday, 4th March will be six holes each of Greensomes, Foursomes and Texas Scramble.
The first trophy competition of 2018 is the Parker Charity Shield on Sunday, 8th April.
