The Farrington Park Ladies were lucky with the weather for their recent competition; it was a gloriously sunny, cold day, much better than the wind and rain of the preceding days.
There was a large field of twenty-four teams for the American Greensomes competition with nine teams scoring 37 points or more. Two teams scored a two-spot birdie at the par 3 holes: Mandy Hobbs and Gail Proctor (10th), Sue Barnes and Carol Jones (15th).
Countback was not needed, as the winning teams were separated by three points. June Symonds and Jackie Walker scored 40 points for third place. Two points
better for second place were Barbara Lawson and Janet Mahoney, but the winners, with a good score of 43 points, were Sue Skyrme and Liz Thomas.
Another fine day, exactly like last week’s weather, saw twenty teams take on the Duchy course for a fun competition of Scotch Foursomes, playing off a joint handicap of 50%. As we move deeper into winter, it becomes increasingly harder to score well, but seven teams managed to score over thirty points. Thirty-one points was a popular score for four teams, but the winners were just ahead of them. Third place went to Fiona Hassard and Margaret Seery with 33 points. The dynamic duo of Marilyn Cass and Lesley Mannion scored 34 points, but they were beaten on countback to the top spot by Mandy Hobbs and Jackie Willcox, who had a better back 9 score of twenty-one points.
