THE Ladies' Section at Orchardleigh Golf Club played in their own adapted version of the Solheim Cup on Tuesday, May 5.
Instead of 4BBB, foursomes and match play being spread over three days it was reduced to one round of 9 holes of 4BBB and 9 holes of match play with Europe battling it out against the Rest of the World.
It was a very close thing with the Europe team managing to get the extra match play win to come in with 6 ½ points to The Rest of the World's team of 5 ½ points.
Sue Sweet, who captained the Europe team, received the trophy from Jan Light, the Lady Captain.
With the dry weather of recent weeks - in contrast to the very wet weather of earlier in the year - there is now plenty of run on the ball and the day was sunny although with a fresh wind. The competition was much enjoyed by all who took part in the event.
The Orchardleigh Ladies have played two Bristol & District Alliance Golf League matches so far this season with a good win at home against Saltford B 10/4 and another win away to Weston-super-Mare B 8/6.
Whereas in the Somerset Inter-club league, Orchardleigh have not done so well, losing at home to Enmore 1.5/5.5 and away to Isle of Wedmore 0.5/6.5. So there is plenty of room for improvement as the season progresses.
Orchardleigh Ladies played the first round of the Rogers Cup, a county inter-club knockout competition, at Enmore Park against Tall Pines. It was a challenging match and they were unfortunately knocked out of the competition for this year.
