THEIR first season in the Avalon Seniors League is beginning to shape up well for the Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club who followed up two narrow defeats on the road with a convincing 4-1 home success against Cannington.

Captain Andy Flagg again led the way in his team’s success, winning his match with Shaun Goodwin 5&3. Paul Trigg and debutant Bob Townsend triumphed 3&2, Chris Appleton and Malcolm Tucker won 2&1 while Martyn Cuer and Noel Chatfield came back from three down to finish their match one up. In a tight contest Steve Brixey and Rob Wells lost narrowly 2&1.

Flagg continued his good form in the Colin Eaton three club competition, winning the event with a nett score of 67. Gerry Rowell was in a strong position to come out on top but it all went wrong on the final hole and he had to be content with second place and a nett 68. Wells was third with a nett 70.

The three ball Texas Scramble for the Continuforms Trophy could not have been closer with three teams all coming in with a nett 57. By the finest of margins it was Steve Parsons, Phil Winsley and Howard Nowell who eventually took first place. Chris Champion, Alan Jones and Richard Sullivan were second with Goodwin, Allen Cheney and Mike Ricketts in third place.

There was a similarly tight finish for the Nick Foxwell Memorial Trophy with no less than five players recording 36 Stableford points. The outcome saw Graham Edgell announced as the winner with Peter Young coming in second and Appleton third. Trigg and Nowell were unlucky to miss out.

After the bad weather earlier this year, competitions are being held regularly now thanks to the drier conditions.
