Farrington Park Ladies had a new qualifying Stableford competition to play for last Thursday - the Lockdown Challenge Trophy. As the name implies, it was a challenge, although no-one could work out why; after weeks of wet weather the rain relented and the sun shone, the temperature rose and the winds were light, a glorious day for golf. Unfortunately, the golf scores did not match the conditions; the golfing gods must have been having a day off to enjoy the fine weather themselves. Only three birdies were scored from the field of forty three, all at the par 3 5th hole by Jacqui Gregory, Rosi Brown and displaying her legendary short game, a chip-in from Min Woodward.

Ten ladies scored more than 30 points but no-one played to par. June Symonds secured third place on countback ahead of Kay Clarke and Lin Papadopoullos after all scored 32 points. Heather Woodland was second with 34 points and the Lockdown Challenge Trophy champion was Maureen Charlton with a fine 35 points.
