The Manor Course Championship on 8th August, had a feel of Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol, with Ladies’ Captain ‘Past’, Ladies Captain ‘Present’, and Ladies’ Captain ‘Future’ teeing off together. The competition, twice around the par three course, is a good test of the short game.

A small field entered, but the day was still competitive, with three trophies to play for. It was Pauline Young, Ladies’ Captain ‘Present’, that narrowly beat Carol Jones on count-back with a gross 69, winning the Manor Course Trophy. Carol, however, won the Nett Trophy, with a nett 54. Bobby Appleby, Ladies’ Captain ‘Past’, won the Vets Trophy with a gross 73.

Jackie Walker and Angela Hudd had a convincing win in the semi-final of Somerset’s Centenary Plate; a Foursomes competition. The frequent heavy showers did not hamper Jackie and Angela, who convincingly beat a duo from Weston-Super-Mare by 4 and 3. They now face Mendip Spring Ladies in the final on 4th September at Stockwood Vale Golf Club.

Mandy Hobbs won the Silver division with an amazing 69 nett, with June Symonds carding an excellent 71 nett to take second place. The Thursday Medal, held on 10th August, was won by Clare Salter in the Silver division, with nett of 77.

Farrington Park’s Josh Hilleard won five out of six of his matches in the Men’s Home Internationals last week, at Moortown Golf Club in Leeds. The talented left hander justified his selection for the England Men’s Elite Squad, by becoming the leading England points scorer in the round robin matches against Wales, Ireland and Scotland.

England narrowly missed out on victory in the overall competition. After beating Wales and Scotland in the first two matches, they drew their final match with Ireland, only to lose by half a point on points difference to the Irish team.

Congratulations to Josh from all at Farrington Park.
