The Senior Men’s and Ladies’ sections joined forces on Tuesday, 20th August for an enjoyable day of mixed pairs’ Greensomes Stableford golf, playing to win the Trubody Trophy.

This competition was first instigated by former club member Paul Trubody in 1995.

The pairs played off a joint handicap and with individual handicaps ranging from nine to 38; some of the lower handicap players were delighted to find that their partner’s higher handicap resulted in a joint handicap far higher than the lower handicapper had played in years!

After the deluge of rain that had been endured in previous days, the weather was sunny but windy, which tested the players’ ball flights and length of shots on some of the longer holes on the Duchy course. However, this didn’t deter many of the seasoned players and the scores were very creditable, especially as most pairings had never played together before.

Countback had to be used to determine third place after two pairs scored 35 points. Jane Ball and Dave Forshaw had five pars on the back nine holes, which helped them take third place ahead of Pat Roscow and Ray Guthrie.

Mike Woodward was one-half of the winning pair last year and had another strong finish this year. He and playing partner Linda Rogers scored 36 points to take second place after scoring very steadily throughout their round.

The winners had an average score on the front nine holes, but came back with a blistering 22 points on the remaining nine holes to score 37 points in total. Sue Forshaw and Alan Smith were the well deserved champions and were presented with the Trubody Trophy by Ladies’ Captain, Pat Roscow.
