There was a competition within a competition for the Farrington Park Ladies on Thursday, 16th May.

A Stableford Qualifying competition for the Somerset Barlow Cup for the Bronze Division players was held alongside a Stableford competition for players whose handicaps are lower than twenty.

Lovely Spring sunshine cheered the Ladies up after the downpours of last week, but the continuing work on the greens made putting difficult, and sank the hopes of many who had hoped to have a good score and improve their handicap.

Bucking the trend was the ever-improving Evie Thatcher, surely heading for a single figure handicap by the end of the season. She was the only player to

receive a handicap cut, with a fine score of 39 points to win Division One. A good back-nine score from Clare Salter enabled her to take second place with 33 points, three ahead of third-placed Tracey Watts.

Scoring 30 points to take second place in Division Two was a welcome return to form after injury by Elaine Davidson, Mary Hobbs scored 27 points to take third place. However, congratulations are due to Sandra Hares, whose 31 points made her the winner of Division Two and the Farrington Park representative at the Barlow Cup Final, to be held at Wheathill Golf Club in August.
