The Senior Ladies Championship was held last Thursday and attracted a field of forty entrants.

It was a Gross Medal competition with two trophies on offer: the “Not so Young” for Ladies, aged 50 to 69, kindly instituted several years ago by Pauline Young and the inaugural ‘Woodward Winner’ trophy, kindly presented by Min Woodward for

ladies who are slightly older, but young at heart!

The lovely autumnal weather of past weeks did not hold out long enough for the ladies, and they had variable elements to contend with, including a very heavy rain shower and blustery winds, which carried on for about fifteen minutes and soaked anyone who had not been prudent enough to wear any wet weather gear.

The cold air and rain- soaked grass means winter golf conditions have come early and the players had to adjust their games accordingly.

Countback was required to determine the winner of the ‘Not so Young’

trophy when two consistent players, Lena Warren and Pauline Young, both scored gross 88. However, Lena’s birdies on holes fifteen and eighteen just clinched the title for her.

Best nett score was a 74, from Fiona Hassard, and the only other two-spot birdie of the day was scored by Bridget Rylance on the par three, fifth hole.

The ‘Woodward Winner’ was won by Sue Vaile, with a gross 108, the first of hopefully, many names to be added to this trophy.
