The fine weather of recent weeks has enabled the Farrington Park Ladies to hold three competitions without any interruptions; a welcome change from the unseasonal conditions experienced in May.

Many players are delighted with their new WHS handicaps which has levelled the “playing field” amongst the Ladies’ section and brought more names into the winners’ enclosure.

There was good scoring for the recent Thursday Stableford with sixteen players out of a field of 33, scoring more than thirty points. Min Woodward continued her good form of recent weeks, chipping and putting her way to top spot with 38 points, beating Margaret Seery into second place on countback and Julie Toogood taking third place with 37 points. The Saturday Medal was won by Angela Hudd with nett 73, Jackie Willcox was second with nett 74 and Jacqui Gregory was third with nett 76.

The Coronation Foursomes is a nationwide competition run by the R&A. The winning team from each club going forward to another round at a neutral venue.

Nineteen pairs entered the competition, playing off a 50% combined handicap and considering this is quite a difficult format with each player taking alternate shots, the final scores were so close that countback had to be used to separate the teams. The three top teams scored 36 points each, but Maureen Charlton and Pauline Young had a better scoring back nine than their peers and relegated Frankie Dezis and Terri O’Shea to second place with Lally Gibson and Bridget Rylance taking third place. Good luck to Maureen and Pauline, who will represent Farrington Park in the next round of the competition.
