The second two day competition of the Farrington Park Ladies is the Thomas Cup.
Generously sponsored by Paul and Liz Thomas, the Stableford competition has prizes on offer on both days and is a popular event with the ladies.
Three ladies played to the par of thirty seven points and Jackie Walker and Liz Thomas tied for third place with thirty eight points. Jackie had birdies at the par three fifteenth and the par five eighteenth.
Twelve year old Lilianna Marshall, playing in her first Thomas Cup, showed the class she had displayed in the Ladies Club Championship by scoring thirty nine points; her round included a birdie at the par four fourteenth and a par at the tricky par four seventeenth. However, the round of the day came from twenty nine handicapper, Corrina Bates, who had a birdie at the difficult par four second hole and an almost unbelievable par save at the par three tenth, when she chipped-in from the deep rough, to lead the competition with forty one points and earned a handicap cut to twenty eight.
Only one player played below par and two played to par with the rest of the field slipping back. Rookie, Sue Skyrme, who had had a large handicap cut last week, improved on her day one score by shooting a par round of thirty seven points.
Jackie Walker’s consistent golf kept her at the top with another good round of thirty seven points, whilst Corrina, the overnight leader scored thirty three, as did Liliana.
Wendy Butt was the winner on day two with thirty nine points and received a handicap cut for her effort.
Paul Thomas was the MC for the prize giving ceremony, but not before thanking everyone for taking part and displaying some good golf over the two days of competition; thanks to Steve Ball.
The overall winners were very close. Sue Skyrme burst through the field to take fourth place with a total of seventy, Liliana took third spot with a total of seventy two and Corrina was second with seventy four.
The Thomas Cup winner for 2020 was Jackie Walker with a total score of seventy five points.
