Time seemed to drag through the second lockdown month, golf and other sports were suspended again much to the despair of their
participants.
When golf resumed, there was a large field ready to play in the first Farrington Park Ladies’ competition of Scotch Foursomes.
This isn’t Foursomes played whilst wearing kilts, but Foursomes played in the normal way until the last putt is holed on the first green.
Then the player that didn’t hole the putt, tees off on the second hole, even if she teed off on the first hole. In theory, one player could tee off on all eighteen holes and her playing partner could sink all the last putts on each hole.
Foursomes is a difficult format and the total Stableford scores from the teams reflected this. June Symonds and Jacqui Gregory finished sixth, with 31 points, which included a two-spot birdie. A chip-in from the rough on the fifth hole from Terri O’Shea gave her and partner, Corrine Durbin, the only other two-spot birdie of the day. Fourth place went to Hayley Bullock and Pauline Brixey, with 33 points, one point ahead of Kay Clarke and Denise Baker.
Three teams scored 34 points and countback had to be used to separate them. Maureen Charlton and Pauline Young just shaded out Liz Thomas and Dawn Stacey for second place, but top of the pile were the ever-consistent pairing of Fiona Hassard and Lally Gibson.
