After the disappointment of the last two months’ competitions being cancelled due to snow and rain, Farrington Park’s Mixed Section were glad to be able to hold the Parker Charity Shield competition in reasonably Spring-like weather on Sunday, 7th April.
All proceeds from this competition go to charity and £160 was raised on the day.
Sixteen couples played the American Greensomes Stableford format off a joint handicap. Prizes were on offer for the men’s and Ladies’ Nearest the Pins on the par-three 5th and 15th holes. These were won by Mike Bradbury on the 5th and Mandy Hobbs on the 15th.
There was a wide range of scores returned to the club house, but the most popular for the top teams was 39 points, and countback had to be employed to separate the fourth, third and second-placed couples. In fourth place was Rosi Brown and Mike Bradbury. Third place went to Margaret Seery and Dave Forshaw.
The best score on the back nine holes came from Issey and Paul Panton, helping them to second place overall.
However, the round of the day came from the pairing who were playing off the lowest joint-handicap of twelve; a terrific score of 42 points saw Mandy and Steve Hobbs lift the first Mixed Section ‘Major’ of the year.
