On a dank, dreary and dismal morning, the gloom was lifted with a glittering display of golf from Senior, Alan Fussell, in the Diamond Jubilee Trophy.

A brilliant net score of 62 from the Division One player, which included nine pars and four birdies, ensured a handicap reduction from sixteen to thirteen. Dave Harvey was in second spot on net-69 with two shots clear of a chasing bunch of four players on net-71. Taking third place on countback was Phil Thompson, closely followed by David Elliott, Tony Thorp and Andy Snook.

Nearest the Pin: 5th – Phil Thompson, 8th – Alan Elkington, 14th – Don Perry, 15th – Tony Thorp. Missed putts were expensive, with only three players with twos, David Metcalfe and Steve Brixey on the 5th and Leo Seddon on the 15th.

Texas Scramble is a very popular format in golf, as everyone gets to be involved in the game. It was originally called Captain’s Choice, as the leading player in each group made the choice on shot selection. However, Texas Scramble has become the popular name for the format, due to the growing popularity in – you guessed it – Texas in the 1950s.

A beautiful morning greeted the Senior Men at Farrington Park last week, and some excellent scoring achieved as a result of the splendid conditions. In first place was the team of Jim Lunt, Chris Liberty and Ray Wilkinson, with Mike Bradbury, Mike Woodward and Alan Bishop in second.

The course is looking in great shape with the Max Stone competition fast approaching on Saturday, 15th and Sunday, 16th June. Work on the signature hole 12th tee has now been completed, with the tee completely returfed and should be playable within the next two-to-three weeks.
