Depleted due to injuries and hospital call-ups, Fosseway Seniors began their 2017 fixtures in unremarkable style with two losses and one draw.
An honourable defeat to Folke Golf Club by four points to two was followed by a less than honourable thrashing by the thoroughbreds of Wincanton by five and-a-half to a half. There was, however, an improvement in the third match, with a tense affair against Woodspring ending in a creditable three points apiece. It was a relieved Captain Gerry Rowell who said after this latest match: “The boys have done well and all of us believe we are now going places!”
The next match is away to Minchinhampton.
On the domestic front, the Triples Stableford format of the Clem Byrne Trophy was clearly to the liking of Pat Cray, John Bendle and Ken Tucker, who finished on 75 points, an impressive six clear of their nearest rivals.
