Mike Weeks continued his excellent first season in the Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club with victory in the Murphy’s Stableford event for the Mark Bridges Cup.

His total of 45 points was a long way ahead of second-placed Alan White, another newcomer to the club this year who had 32 points. Jack Curtis was third, a further six points back, winning on countback.

Fosseway’s long trek to Folke for the latest social match saw them put up a spirited fight before losing by four games to two. Howard Nowell and Brian Woodruff led the way with a 3&2 win, and there was also success for John Bendle and Cyril Blacker, who won 2&1.

Weeks paired up with skipper, Gerry Rowell, in the opening match, but lost 4&2, and there were further defeats for Vice-Captain, Martyn Cuer, and Barry Dugmore (2&1), White and Alan Jones (3&2) and the Curtis brothers, Jack and Reg (5&4). Malcolm Tucker
