The Seniors section of Fosseway Golf Club are out of the Somerset Rose Bowl competition after a narrow 3–2 defeat against Mendip Seniors at Orchardleigh.

The match began well for Fosseway with a 2&1 win for Vice-Captain, Martyn Cuer, and Alan White, and there was a similar victory in the final game for Roger Parfitt and Malcolm Tucker. The three matches sandwiched in between, however, saw comfortable wins for Mendip with Allen Cheney and Cyril Blacker losing 5&4, Howard Nowell and John Bendle on the wrong end of a 6&5 scoreline and captain Gerry Rowell and Alan Jones beaten 5&3.

The Seniors were also beaten in the second social match of the season, losing 3.5-2.5 at home to Woodspring. Cuer and White completed a good week’s work with Cuer joining up with recent recruit Alan Vowell to win 2&1 while White and another new member John Smart were even more convincing winning 5&3. Captain Rowell and Frank Reeves were one-up with two to play, but in the end, had to settle for a half, but there were defeats for Mike Weeks and Doug Lane who were beaten 5&4 and Jones and Tucker who lost 3&2.
