The Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club have for many years taken part in a triangular competition with Minchinhampton and Shortwood Lodge, but sadly the event has run its course.
Last year, Minchinhampton were unable to raise a side to play at Fosseway, and now news has come that Shortwood Lodge is to close and the Seniors there have finished social matches. This is sad news for all concerned, and Fosseway will miss meeting up with old friends. Fosseway did travel to Minchinhampton for the second time this year to take part in what became a two-team event, but were beaten by forty points. Doug Lane was the visitors’ leading scorer, but the home side’s consistency saw them comfortable winners.
Fosseway’s home fixture with Cannington ended in a 3-3 draw. Cyril Blacker and Graham Edgell won their match 4&2 with Edgell in particularly sharp form, while there was a good win too for John Bendle and Brian Woodruff who came home 4&3 victors. Alan Jones was forced to play on his own after Nick Foxwell was a late absentee through illness, and he came up with one of the performances of the day to halve his match, and there was also a halved match for Mike Weeks and Malcolm Tucker. Captain, Gerry Rowell, and Lane, and George Underwood and Frank Reeves, were both beaten 3&2.
