There were warm, benign conditions for most of Charity Day, but then we were interrupted by the lightning klaxon.

The winning team, with an amazing 96 points, were Maureen Bailey (49), David Smith (42), Christopher Strickland (20) and Veronica Cherry (19). In second place were Richard Sheard (17), Stephen Payne (9), Glyn Hallett (16) and John Mackway (20) followed closely by Ken Mitchell (16), Michael Bailey (11), Michael Currell (15) and Graham Hall (13) in third place. Nearest the pin winners were Andrew Killey, Aaron Thurston, Clive Gadd and Mark Robinson.

The biggest thank you goes to the 148 golfers that played, bought raffle tickets, bought mulligans, and supported the event. Well done one and all!

We have several streams of donations to add up but at this early stage, with voucher bids, raffle ticket sales, mulligans and entry fees, it looks like we have raised in excess of £2,500 which will make a significant difference to our chosen charity this year, The Lawrence Centre.

First up for the Stragglers were Duncan Bratt and Terry Pearce, the highlight of this match being Bratt’s eagle on the thirteenth.

Second out for Wells was Captain Simon Harris, accompanied by Rory Passmore. This match was very much “nip and tuck”, with Wells prevailing 4 & 2.

Third out for Wells were youngsters, John Hockey and Terry Searle, who at a combined age of 163 years old, did well and let the opponents win. Next were the Club President, George Davis and Club Chairman, Bill Levell, who had their work cut out against Mendip “youngsters”, Nathan Walker and Gus Anacleto who won 1 up. Guy Timson and Aaron Thurston were the last pair out and they won comfortably 7&6.

The Ladies’ Inter Club League team played at home against Mendip, resulting in a strong win for the Wells team, 6–1.

A blustery day with some heavy showers greeted players for the Dave Parsons Trophy, a Seniors’ Individual Stableford. Steve Clark triumphed with 37 points, while Brian Cowley (36 points) and Mike Magrath (36 points) finished second and third respectively.
