THE June Mid-Week Stableford at Mendip Golf Club was played in tricky weather conditions, with strong winds and rain.
Division 1 was won by David Jukes with 33 points. Division 2 was won by Ryan Davis with a fine 38 points and Division 3 went Kevin Buckler, also with 38 points.
The ladies played a qualifier for the England Golf Titleist Womens 4BBB event and the winners with a fine 38 points were Anita Butcher & Pauline Williams on countback from Julia Phillips and Lillian Peel.
The Titleist Womens 4BBB winning pair, also with 38 points, were Lauren Morris & Harper Howerd. They now wait to see if the score is good enough to progress to the national finals in August.
On a sunny and breezy afternoon, overlooking the Bristol Channel, Mendip seniors visited Worlebury. Confusion reigned as one of the opposition was late turning up which led to a re-jig of the playing order.
This seemed to upset the visitors more as the home team won the first two matches. However, the spine of the Mendip team came good and a very creditable 3-3 tie was secured. The return home fixture is next week to see who can claim overall bragging rights!
The men’s Pickeridge Bowl team beat Weston-Super-Mare to advance to the semi-finals of the Somerset Pickeridge Bowl knockout. They will play Minehead at a neutral venue to be decided.
On an afternoon when the weather could only be described as horrid, the Mendip Seniors took on Enmore Park in the return fixture for this season. Hoping to overturn a 4-2 deficit, "Godwin’s Green & White Warriors" secured a magnificent 5.5 - 0.5 victory resulting in their first aggregate win of the season 7.5- 4.5.
Interestingly the away fixture was just over two weeks ago and the difference in match day temperatures was 23 degrees!
