The Ladies and Men’s golf sections at Farrington Park have jointly raised over £8,500 for the Rainbow Trust Charity. The two sections, headed by Men’s Captain, Rob Riccio, and Ladies Captain, Bobby Appleby, raised the formidable amount through a year-long mission of organised events including a golf marathon, quizzes and golf

competitions. The money raised goes to help families who have a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness.

“We are very proud to have raised these badly needed funds for the Rainbow Trust. I would like to thank everyone who supported Bobby and myself throughout the year and we are very pleased that the money will be going to children and families in need of the help of the Rainbow Trust,” said Rob Riccio.

Ladies

With the prospect of a heavy downpour and winds up to 41 mph due for mid-morning on Thursday, 17th November, nearly half the Ladies withdrew from the ‘Three Game Challenge’ pairs competition. However, 26 resourceful and brave ladies took part in the competition that was reduced to nine holes, in the hope that they all could get in to the clubhouse before being drenched.

Unfortunately for the last two groups, the rain came early and flooded the eighth and ninth greens. The winners of the ‘Aqua’ golf competition, were Maureen Charlton and Pauline Young with nineteen points, second with fourteen points were Terri O’Shea and Brenda Michael, (the last group in and whose wet clothing weighed a ‘ton’) and third on countback were Gill Russell and Heather Woodland with thirteen points.

Seniors

A cold, grey morning greeted the Senior men of Farrington Park. With dark clouds and threatening rain, double digit temperatures were but a

distant memory.

Winners by a four point margin on 83 were Bob McKeegan-Brown, Nigel Savage and Len Salter.

Runners-up on 79 points were Tony Clement, David Brown and Steve Park. Third were Paul Cains, Richard Dancey and Geoff Skyrme on 78. Close behind were Steve Ball, Pete Maule and Roger Stone on 77 with the final prize monies going to Barry Hall, Rick Clark and Ray Parker on 76 points.

Nearest the Pins on 5th Mo (I had a two) Duery, 8th Steve Symonds, 14th Paul Cains and 15th Bob McKeegan-Brown.

With players getting used to the wintery conditions and having to club up, there was two good rounds in Division One’s Saturday Stableford (12th November). Both on forty points, with Andy Bayley winning on countback from Phil Thompson, and John Russell taking third with 38 points. It was the same in Division Two, with two tied at the top, both with 39 points, with Cameron Goudie beating Ian Jones on countback and Mark Turner a close third with 38 points.

In Division Two, it was a great day for Lee Matthews with 42 points, followed in second by Simon Park on 36 points and Steve Harmer, third, on 35 points.
