Doing the best impersonation of escapee penguins from Bristol Zoo braving the cold wind and frosty conditions, a great turnout of 71 seniors are to be congratulated on their resilience and fortitude in the latest Texas Scramble.

This is a format where all players play their part and can be a lengthy process. Search parties are regularly despatched to find missing teams, and it is a minor miracle that all players were accounted for! The course is in great condition – well done to Andy and his crew.

Ladies

One of the Farrington Park Ladies’ favourite fun competitions, the Three Game Challenge, was rearranged for Thursday, 26th January, having been postponed in November due to heavy rain.

Unfortunately, the weather was unpleasant once again; this time, with bitterly cold temperatures. This did not deter 42 ladies playing in pairs, with the challenge being the first six holes Greensomes, the next six holes Foursomes and the final holes a two ball Texas Scramble.

Some of the pairings, believing they had carded a very good score, were surprised they did not even feature in the prizes, such was the standard of the golf on the day.

The winning pair of Peggy Edwards and Pat Roscow came in with 44 points on countback, just pipping second placed pair, Jacqui Gregory and Tracey Watts, also with 44 points. In third place were Angela Hudd and Sharman Bradshaw, with 40 points and fourth were Clare Salter and Tracy Grist with 39 points on countback. Peggy, on receiving her first prize, was very complimentary to her playing partner, saying Pat had played brilliantly.

Men

With frosty conditions making golf very testing with high bounce on the greens, Lee Sparkes took the honours in Division One’s Sunday Stableford (22nd January) with 34 points,

followed in second by in-form Tony Guthrie on 33 points, beating Matt Lefeuvre on countback into third.

In Division Two it was a good day at the office for Adrian Busson, with 36 points, followed in second by Ben Park, on 34 points, and Stuart Howe in third, on 33 points.
