The prestigious Irwin Trophy was won by Erica Klim and Ron Johnson with 42 points. The large number of entrants in Wells’ Mixed Greensomes competition enjoyed a run on the ball in dry conditions.
Klim and Johnson worked well together, driving all the fairways and holing some long putts. George and Janice White came in second, just one point behind the winners, after finding a bunker on the eighteenth, with Tony and Julie Blunden in third place.
The Ladies Alliance team played Bristol and Clifton at home with Sue Wells, Kim Lord and Sue Hockey winning their matches. Their second match was away at Lansdown where wins for Kim Lord, Jen Jones, Sandy Heath, Tina Davies and Cath Levell added ten points to the running total.
The Ladies Interleague team played at Mendip Spring in benign conditions. It was the first time the two teams have been in the same division. The nature of the course, with its numerous water hazards, gave the Mendip Springs’ Ladies a real home advantage. There were brilliant wins by Janice White and Diane Ramsay, who gained valuable away points.
