A Somerset golf club has invested more than £250,000 in the latest state-of-the-art driving range technology.
Farrington Park Golf Club in Farrington Gurney, Somerset opened its new 14-bay driving range which has been fitted with Toptracer technology in each of its bays.
Toptracer transformed how we viewed golf on TV and it is now doing the same for driving ranges all over the world.
Technology that was once exclusive to the top professionals is now available, affordable and enjoyable to all at Farrington Park.
A Toptracer enabled driving range has monitors in each bay that allows players to see exactly how far their ball travels, it’s spin rate and accuracy.
This information can then be recorded on a special app so that the person can keep a record of their shots, and what clubs they were using at the time.
As well as this, the technology allows golfers to play any of the top courses in the world, from their bay.
Using the new TV screens, the user can choose which course they want, and then when they take a shot, that will be shown on the screen as if they were there on the actual course.
But it’s not just for the dedicated golfer with even beginners and young children capable of using the system.
Farrington Park’s head pro, Nick Brennan, said: “This technology will not only be a fantastic addition to the golf club members, but I’m convinced that golfers from around Somerset will be attracted to the new system.
“It’s a great aid for any standard of golf from a 28 handicap, right up to a professional.
“Golfers can practice specific drills and get instant feedback on their shots so it will be perfect those wanting to take their golf to the next level.
“And while it is easy to use it is great fun for youngsters as well as non-golfers who can use the Toptracer technology even if they are new to the sport.”
The work to put in the Toptracer system took more than two months and included the installation of 11 25metre high pylons from which new netting could be hung.
Kevin Mortimer, general manager at Farrington Park added: “The management team went to look at Toptracer ranges in other parts of the country and saw just what a success it had been.
“We have a great health and fitness club and this will be another great addition to the facilities we already have at Farrington Park and we hope that some of those that come up to use Toptracer will become members.
“There has been tremendous investment in the club over the last 18 months, including major ground works on the course as well as a new kitchen for our restaurant.
“There is also a lack of entertainment for young people in this area and we hope that Toptracer will be able to fill a gap in the market for people to see it as a day out.”
The cost of using the Toptracer system ranges from £2 (£3 for non-members) for 24 balls to £10 (£12.50 for non-members) for 120 balls.
