Mendip Golf Club saw a new Competition played last week – the Avalon Team Trophy match, played between the three Avalon Teams, with six players from each squad competing.

Played in testing condi- tions, the B squad came out victorious with exceptional wins for Liam Robertson playing with Team Debutant, Oli Saunder and Paul Smith playing with Shaun Robertson.

The afternoon was a terrific success, with the Team Captains able to try out new partnerships and of course, to welcome new players to the squads. All three Teams are looking forward to the upcoming challenge of the new Avalon League season.

New Men’s Captain, James Boyce, has announced his Charity for the Year as the Forever Friends Appeal, the main fundraiser supporting Bath’s Royal United Hospital for the provision of additional equipment and with Research and Development.

The charity, during the twenty years of its existence, has raised over £25 million towards patient care at the Hospital. In addition, the Seniors’ Captain has nominated the Alzheimer’s Society as his Charity for the Year.

The Ladies were faced with very poor weather for their weekly competition and it was not surprising that some of the teams opted to remain in the warmth of the Clubhouse!

However, 27 ladies did brave the conditions and after a very tough eighteen holes, the winners were: Jenny Merrett/Elaine P Richardson/Fran Davies with 72 points.

In second place were Vi Hayes/Jean Padfield/ Edwina Willis, with seventy and in third place, with 67, came Gina Howard/Allison Rumming/Eileen Masters.

The Pro Shop this week saw the return pf the popu- lar Bullseye Challenge. This was won by David Williams with twelve points and amazingly, there was a seven way tie for second on eight points. Tony Williams
