Amazingly, despite the continuing heavy rain, Mendip Golf Club remains open and active.
Last Friday, when many courses were closed, Mendip held their second Seniors Competition of the year with ninety Members competing.
This was a three man Texas Scramble Medal event, and with only three temporary Greens and the remainder of the Course playing so well, the scoring was extremely competitive.
David Pilbeam, Dick Ransley and Derek Strudwick must have been feeling pretty confident when they returned a net 60.8, but in the event, this only brought them into fifth position.
Beating them on countback came Seniors Captain, John Brooksbank, Trevor Foster and Brian Say, who were fourth.
Simon Atkinson, Andy Frampton and Bryan Lewis were third, with net 60.6 and Simon Brand, Wayne Spencer and Michael Treasure were second with 60.2. However, the winners by the closest of margins with a fine net sixty were Philip Moores, Peter Rumming and Tony Taylor.
Two teams had a very rewarding day by sharing the £125 two spot fund!
The Pro Shop Nearest the Pin competition was won by John Ellis with Paul Smith second and John Stembridge third.
The Pro Shop event on the course this week was a Pairs Yellow Ball Stableford, which saw Steve Davis and John Ellis in third place with 76 points. In second place came David Cox and Alan O’Leary, with 78 points, but winning by a mile, with 86 points, were the very competitive pairing of Ryan Sainsbury and Clive Copp. Tony Williams
