THE ladies Vyvyan Clare Trophy Par competition at Mendip Golf Club has been won by Hayley Bullock with a score of +1, with the runner up being Lauren Morris on -1.
The ladies held their End of Season Mix Up Bowmaker and, on a lovely autumnal day, the winners were Jenny Merrett, Elaine P Richardson, Pauline Williams and Penelope Oliver with 78 points.
The annual Tri-Captains competition, with teams of 2 men and 1 lady player, all playing from the red tees, was won by David Jukes, Tony Scott and Louise Scott with a fine score of 74 points. Runners-Up were Lee Callow, Hayley Bullock and Philip Mckenny on 69 points.
Meanwhile, Matilda Rocker-Cook and Lauren Morris, both representing the Mendip Golf Club, made their Somerset Girls debuts at the Wessex Salver held at West Wilts Golf Club.
The annual event brings together teams from the six South West counties in a competitive Stableford format. Played in breezy conditions, the hilltop course proved a stern challenge throughout the day, with the exposed layout and some particularly demanding pin positions making scoring difficult for all competitors.
Despite the testing conditions, both debutants acquitted themselves superbly. Matilda and Lauren played some excellent golf from tee to green, demonstrating composure and quality ball-striking throughout their rounds. While the challenging greens and tricky pin placements limited scoring opportunities, there were plenty of positives to take from their first appearance in Somerset colours.
Cornwall produced the strongest overall team performance on the day, with Somerset finishing in fourth place in a closely contested competition.
It was a proud occasion for them, both representing Somerset for the first time and a valuable experience against some of the best young players from across the South West. Their debuts marked an important milestone and provide a strong foundation for future county golf.
