At last the weather has improved a little, and this has enabled the Greens staff to re-commence the Greens maintenance programme recently set up by the specialist Agronomist who advises Mendip on these matters.

Whilst still soft, the greens have been rolled, treatment has brought the colour back and they are putting very well. The remainder of the Course continues to dry out, and there is very little mud in evidence. All in all, for January, the Course appears in very good order.

On the competitive front, Captain Richard Jeffery held his very popular Christmas Competition, albeit delayed until January. The Team event was won by B. Rawlings, S. Coate, R. Gumbleton and A. Price with 98 points, just beating Malcolm and Wayne Srawley, Scott Butland and Chris Butland by a single point. The Individual competition saw a win for John Mitchard with 38 points. There was then a five-way tie on 37 points, which after a complicated count-back saw Richard Salter in second place, B. Wilkinson in third, Ian Fairclough in fourth, Phil Butcher in fifth and David Cox in sixth.

Members also will be delighted to see that work has commenced on the waste recovery scheme, which over time will provide substantial funds for a number of exciting projects for Mendip Golf Club. Tony Williams
