Through the hard work and dedication of Club Professional, Stuart Disney, and his team, the Junior Section at Mendip is once again in fine spirits.

After an absence of seven years, a Junior Club Championship was held, with thirteen competitors who varied in both handicap range and age. The main event was played for by the Juniors with an Official Handicap, with the younger element playing a separate event from the Blue and Golf Access Tees.

This year’s Junior Club Champion is Sam Pepler, who, playing off a handicap of eight, recorded a fine 38 points. Runner-up was thirteen-year-old Ellen Reakes.

The Golf Access event was won by Joel Irons, with a gross score of 52 over the nine-hole event, and the Mini Golf Access event over six holes was won by Harry Lewis, with a score of 32. Several club members helped out and contributed to a very successful day, which bodes well for the future at Mendip.

The final trophy event of the season was the Jim Jeffrey Putter. 87 competitors were faced with brutal playing conditions, resulting in CSS rising to a season’s high of 75. Some excellent golf in Division One saw a win for Richard Jeffrey, with net-74 on countback from Ben Cox. Matt Lambert was third with 75 after a triple countback.

Division Two went to Ken Langridge with an outstanding net-72, with Stephen Cox second with 74 and Mark Necker third with 75. Colin Davies won Division Three with 74 on countback from Paul Wood, with Stephen Pearson third with 75. However, the Trophy Winner came from Division Three, with Chris Huzal, playing off 23 and winning after countback with a fine net-72.

The Ladies held a Bowmaker event and this was won by Jinhee Page/Nichola Croft/Sandie Roper with eighty points. Second were Lynn Cox/Sue Needham/Jean Padfield with 74 and in third place were Fran Davies/Lulu Carolan/Anne Hopkins with seventy.
