The final event of the Turkey Trot season at Mendip is traditionally the singles event. Despite fairly poor weather, a large entry competed.

Winning Division One with 36 points was Richard Salter, with Philip Leadbetter second with 35 and Jack Hayes third with 34 after countback. Division Two went to Mark Necker with a best-of-the-day 42 points, with Trevor Oats second with forty and Terry Carter third with 38. Division Three was won by Chris Bennett with 35, with Tom Ryan second with 34 and Alan Evans-Jones third with 33. As usual, great thanks goes to Nola Russell for her organisation of these events.

The Ladies held an eighteen-hole Advent Adventure Pairs Greensome competition, with eighteen pairs competing. Winning with 38 points were Kay O’Connor and Chris Williams, with Andrea Williams and Nichola Croft second with 36 points, and Fran Davies and Jan Fukuyama third with 34, but only after a five-way tie!

The final mixed event of 2018 saw a reduced field due to terrible weather conditions, high winds and fairly steady rain. Commonsense prevailed, and the competition was reduced to nine holes. The new catering team did an excellent job in bringing forward the post-competition meal, and all were pleased to be in the warm and able to tuck into a nice roast. Winning the competition with a fine twenty points were Lyn and David Cox.

The latest Pro Shop Bullseye event saw a win for Tony Taylor with an amazing maximum score of 25 points. Bearing in mind the shots were being made over a ninety-yard distance, Tony must have a tremendous short game.

The Seniors’ Captain’s Drive-in took place, and despite dire weather warnings, 78 Seniors played in teams of four in very wet conditions, although not as bad as feared. Incoming Seniors’ Captain, Bryan Lewis, was delighted with the support he received and provided a fine brew of mulled wine, which went down very well with the Competitors. New Seniors’ Captain Elect, John Brooksbank, was also on-hand to help.

The actual competition was a very closely-run affair. By a single point, with 85, the winners were Darryl Livingstone, Alan Roper, Rob Stanton and Alan Williams.

Eighty members attended the annual Christmas Dinner. The traditional fayre, plus additional choices for those who preferred, were offered by chef, Ben, and his team; after-dinner music provided by member, John Crick. His group all combined to give the members and their guests a most-pleasant evening. Next up on the social calendar is an evening with keyboard player, Ian Towers – a regular visitor to Mendip over the past twenty years. An excellent entertainer, so an evening not to be missed.
