The annual running of the Jim Jeffrey Putter medal event attracted 107 entries. Conditions were ideal for golf with a light breeze and plenty of late summer sunshine.

Division One was won by Richard Jeffrey with a net-68, and he was followed by Duncan Offer with 70 and Duncan Bratt with 71 after countback. Division Two saw a fine round from Liam Robertson with 67, Leigh Harvey was second with 68 and Stephen Pearson third with 69. Division Three went to David Garnsworthy with 70, James Blackstock was second with 73 and Robert Earney was third with 74 after countback.

However, an excellent 64 by eighteen-handicapper, James Pitchell, saw him win the Trophy this year.

The Ladies’ Weekend Stableford saw a truly outstanding round of golf from Aimee Sawyer, who shot a net-71, five under standard scratch, which after the handicap reduction now sees Aimee as a plus-one golfer. Well done Aimee, all your hard work this year has paid off for you.

The Ladies played a qualifying medal linked to the Barbara Jose Trophy. The nine-hole addition went to Joan Clark. The Trophy winner in the eighteen-hole event was Ladies’ Captain, Marian Speed, with a net-77, with Anita Butcher second with 81 and Vi Hayes third with 83.

The Ladies played their annual match against the Seniors, always a most enjoyable occasion. The golf, as always, was very competitive, with the Seniors finding it difficult at times coping with the number of shots they had to give the Ladies! However, all ended well with a halved match, 4-4.

The Ladies’ Inter-Club Team found Long Sutton too strong, losing 2-5, with wins coming from Chris Williams and Elaine Richardson. The Ladies’ Friendly Team visited Wedmore and suffered a narrow defeat, 2-3, with wins for Susy Rudkin/Trish Murphy and Eileen Masters/Wendy Norman. Susy did particularly well, bearing in mind her handicap had been cut by four shots the previous day!

The Seniors held the Centenary Cup event with 66 entrants. Very unpleasant playing conditions with squally showers kept the scoring low. However, Terry Carter mastered the conditions best of all to win the Trophy with 38 points, followed by John Ellis with 37 and Alan Newton with 36 after countback from Derek Strudwick.

The Seniors’ Avalon Team went down to 2-3 when visiting Stockwood Vale. However, they finished the season strongly when defeating Mendip Spring 4-1 to finish fourth in their league. The winners were Jim Scott/David Braithwaite, Tony Taylor. Nick Inskip, Mike Treasure/David Collins and Bryan Lewis/Alan Edwards.

The Seniors’ Friendly Team recorded a 4½-2½ win over Clevedon with wins from John Ellis/Rob Berry, Henry Banks/John Brooksbank, Martin Osborne/Byron Osborne, Jim Scott/John Brooksbank and John Shakesby/Mike Snaith, with a half from Bryan Lewis/Mike Lill.
