As we move into winter golf, the men have been very busy with their weekly Turkey Trot competitions. Always popular, entry lists fill up quickly. In the Four Ball Better Ball Stableford, the father and son combination of Malcolm and Wayne Srawley came out on top, with 47 points, beating, on countback, Mike Vincent and S. Wheeler. In third place, with 45, came Peter Rumming and Gerry McFerran.

The next event was the Three Man Mendacious Bowmaker and this was won with a fine 88 points by D. Golledge, G. Collard and T. Braithwaite. In second place, with 86, came N. Brokenshire, Ray Ashman and Martin Wilkins and in third, with 82, Danny

Middle, Alan O’Leary and Jordan Vaughan.

The third event saw Alan O’Leary in the frame again, this time as part of the

winning team, together with Dave Cox and Mervyn Vaughan, who scored 71. In second place, on seventy, came the very low handicap team of Neil Onslow, George Morgan and Tom Lowe, and in third spot was Duncan Offer, Paul Smith and Andy Parfitt, with 69.

The Ladies ran the first of their nine hole Santa Special competitions where players have to have different partners in each event. On this occasion, the winning team was Jinhee Page, Elaine Richardson and Lulu Carolan with eighty. In second place, with 79, came Linda Brobson, Chris Down and Vi Hayes, and in third place, with 77, was the team of Jean Padfield, Pauline Williams and Alison Rumming.

The Seniors held their latest Monthly Stableford which attracted a strong field. Two excellent scores of forty won the two divisions, Bryan Lewis, in Division One and Merlyn Saunders, in Division Two. Second place in the First Division went to Peter French with 37 and Rod Dyson was third, with 36. Division Two runner-up was Andy Griffiths with 37, with Adam Spragg third, with 34.

36 players were also in action competing in the first of the winter mixed events. Played in glorious sunshine, it was difficult to believe it was November. Scoring was good with 39 points, but only good enough for Dave and Anne Collins to secure third spot. Runners-up, with 41 and losing out on countback, were Ladies’ Captain, Hilary Rowdon, playing with husband, Hugh. Worthy winners were Chris Atkinson and Peter Davies.

With the course remaining in tremendous order with the greens still running fast and true, and due to the change in our winter preparation schedule, which really has paid dividends, Mendip Golf Club has decided to make available a limited number of Winter Memberships.
