Mendip Golf Club held the annual running of the Jim Jeffrey Putter with 121 men competing.

Division Three went to S. Crane, with a net sixty-eight, R. Greenway was second, with seventy, and P. Walsh was third, with seventy-two. Division Two went to Phil Butcher, with seventy, G. Merrett was second, with seventy, and Simon Wynn was third, with seventy-one.

Division One went to Matt Bendall, with seventy, Matt Lambert was second, with seventy-one and Dean Lewer was third again with seventy-one. However, the Trophy winner was five handicapper, Jordan Vaughan, with an excellent sixty-seven, a fine score on a difficult scoring day.

Fourteen-year-old Mendip Junior, Ellen Reakes, has recently been selected by England Golf to undergo training with the South West U-18 team. Well done, Ellen – it shows that all the hard work you put in is paying off. Ellen has reduced her handicap this year to 3.7.

The Mendip Ladies held a Waltzing Matilda Stableford with forty-four Ladies taking part. This was a very competitive affair, with only two shots separating the first four teams. Winning with seventy-seven were Lulu Carolan, Andrea Williams, Anne Hopkins and Elaine Richardson. Second place went to Jean Padfield, Nichola Croft, Dee Garnsworthy and Daphne Irons, with seventy-six on countback from Lynn Cox, Penny Oliver, Fran Davies and Marian Speed.

The Mendip Seniors held a Stableford event with one hundred competitors.

Division One was won by Bryan Lewis, with thirty-six points with a better back nine than Selwyn Rees, with Simon Brand third, with thirty-five.

Division Two went to Julian Pallister, with thirty-seven on countback from Robert Miller, with David Garnsworthy, third, with thirty-six. The Veterans’ prize went to Adam Spragg, with thirty-three, Tony Whitmarsh was second, with thirty-one on the back nine from Terry Carter.

Mendip Senior, Ian Tinsley, achieved his first hole in one on the twelth hole after sixty years of trying! As the proverb says “all things come to those who wait”!

The Millington Salver event is now a Mixed 4BBB, a far cry from when it was a strict foursomes. A very good entry of twenty-seven pairs took part. Winning with forty-two points after countback were Keith Gadsden and Jinhee Page, with Bryan Lewis and Penny Oliver second. Nick and Helen Roberts were third with thirty-nine, again, after countback from Rob and Elaine P. Richardson.

The Pro Shop Nearest the Pin went to Henry Banks with Matt Bendall second and Tony Taylor third. Tony Williams
