Thirty of Mendip’s Ladies played in a 4BBB Ping Qualifier event which saw a win for Caroline Simper/Susy Rudkin with 36 points on countback from Ladies Captain Elect, Allison Rumming/Lilian Peel. Chris Atkinson/Hilary Rowdon were third with 33 points after a four-way tie.

The Alliance A Team had a resounding win when entertaining Thornbury with a 14–0 victory. Well done Ellen Reakes, Jinhee Page, Lynne Vowles, Fran Davies, Marian Speed, Elaine P. Richardson and Edwina Willis. The Inter Club Team were not as successful when visiting Worlebury and were well beaten.

Rising star, fifteen-year-old Ellen Reakes, now playing off a handicap of -0.5 had her first taste of a large national tournament when playing in the Astor Salver at the prestigious Berkshire Club. A star-studded field of eighty-three ladies and girls contained some international players. Ellen achieved a very creditable mid-table position despite a treble bogey on the 18th in the morning round. The afternoon saw Ellen shoot three over par with bogeys on the 16th and 17th. Well played, Ellen.

The Seniors visited Saltford in the first round of the Somerset Scratch KO Cup and despite being a player short, nevertheless came out on top, 3–2 with wins for Chris Lindley, Wayne Spencer and Steve Davis.

The Seniors’ Avalon League Team played their first match under new Captain, Kevin Carmody, when entertaining Stockwood Vale.

A very close match resulted in a win for Mendip, 3–2, with victories from John Ellis/Kevin Carmody, who fought back after being two down, Rob Richardson/Tony Taylor and Alan Williams/Simon Wynn, who again came from behind to win, having been three down at one stage. The visitors were very effusive in their praise for the course and the

catering arrangements.

The Seniors’ Friendly team have had a clutch of matches over the past two weeks. Away to Enmore, Mendip narrowly lost 3½–1½. They them had a home match against Rushmore, added to the fixture list for the first time this year. This, however, resulted in a 1–5 defeat. In a superb return to form, Mendip then defeated Burnham & Berrow at home 6–1 and followed this up in fine style by defeating Enmore in the return fixture 7–1.

Mendip held a very successful Mixed Open Bowmaker with ninety-two entrants. The Winning Team, with 81 points, came from Mendip being Mark Necker, Robert Cook, Susy Rudkin and Julie Doyle. In second place were a team from North Wilts with 77 and a team from Bath were third with 75. A Taunton and Pickeridge team were fourth, with 74, followed by another Mendip team, Rob and Sue Needham and Alan and Sandie Roper also with 74.

Mendip also ran the Millington Salver Mixed event, which this year was also a Ping Qualifying event. Twenty-one pairs competed and scoring was very close indeed. Winning with 38 points were three handicapper, Ben Cox, playing with his thirteen-year-old daughter Connie. In second place, with 37 points after a triple count back, were Clive Copp and Philippa Brown with Alan and Sandie Roper third and Julia and Mike Phillips were fourth.

The Juniors held a nine hole medal event which was won by Samuel Hughes with a net 31, with Ben Jones second with 32 and Alexander Leonard third with 36.

The Pro Shop Nearest the Pin events were won by Colin Wiltshire and Dean Lewer. Tony Williams
