Seventy eight men competed in the Mendacious Bowmaker event at Mendip.

After a close battle decided on count back, the winners on 71 points were Shaun Rich, Selwyn Rees and Ken Webster leaving Guillame Lesage, James Church and C Sharp in second place. In third place on 69 points were P Antell, S Antell and David Ashton with Danny Middle, Matt Lambert and Alan O’Leary fourth with 68.

The winners of Nearest the Pins over the past three weeks were Adrian Brooking-Clark with Matt Bendall second, Tony Taylor with Tony Scott second and Henry Banks with Chris Butland second.

The Men’s Triple Six Better Ball event attracted seventy eight players. In forth position were John Ollerton and Steven Hall with 40 points. Third place after count back went to Matt Lambert and Alan O’Leary with Malcolm Srawley and Tom Black second. However, clear winners were John Shakesby playing with his son Andrew with an outstanding 45 points.

Mendip was pleased to announce that popular member of the Greens team, Tom Small, has been selected to play for the Somerset County first team. In addition the club are delighted to emphasise the re-growth of Junior Golf with five juniors playing in the Somerset Schools Championships being Thomas and Ffion Richardson, Sam Hughes and Polly and Ben Jones.

The Mendip Ladies held their last 9 hole Stableford of the winter season with forty three competitors. Division One went to Anita Butcher with 19 points with Jenny Merrett second with 17 and Lynne Vowles was third with 16. Division Two saw a 4 way tie on 16 points and after count back Alison Kay emerged as the winner, Carol Curtis was second and Chris Williams third. Division Three saw an outstanding 23 points from Maggie Brain with Louise Scott second with 19 after count back from Pauline Williams.

The Ladies first 18 hole competition of the season saw 48 ladies competing in a 4 person team event. Winning with 63 points were Ladies Captain Elect, Allison Rumming/Caroline Simper/Pauline Williams/Ann Padley. In second place with 59 points came a low handicap team, receiving 64 shots less than the Winners, Jenny Merrett/Fran Davies/Edwina Willis/Jo Espley and in third place came Alison Letts/Diane Stanton/Susy Rudkin/Lyn Jones with 57 points.

An excellent evening at the club was enjoyed by sixty members and wives of the C & B Golf Society. The occasion was to celebrate the 50 years that Roger Hill has been president of the society. Roger was the self appointed president from the outset and it has been his enthusiasm over the years that has seen the society grow from a select few to the flourishing state it is now.
