36 pairs competed at Mendip for the annual running of the Berkeley Hall Foursomes event. Always a difficult format and deserved winners were the low handicap pairing of Neil Onslow and Matt Rawlings with 68.
In second place came Wayne Black and Derek Strudwick with 69 and in third place after count back, despite a nightmare first 2 holes were Andy Parfitt and Paul Smith with 70.
52 pairs played in the Mens 4BBB Open event. First visitor’s prize went to a Team from Long Sutton/Orchardleigh with a staggering 49 points. Second visitors prize went to a Saltford Team with 44 points with a Team from North Oxford/Oxfordshire third with 43. The Best Visitor/Mendip Team were Malcolm Srawley and his partner with 44 and the best Mendip pairing were Nigel Brokenshire/John Shakesby with 43.
The Ladies Reid Trophy event, held on a bitterly cold albeit June day saw another win for young Ffion Richardson with 39 points with Jo Espley second with 36 and Jenny Merrett third with 33.
The Tuesday Ladies Competition was a Stableford held in memory of June Millington who passed away in 2020. An excellent entry of 45 ladies competed and saw a win for Sandie Roper with 34, Dee Garnsworthy was second with 33 and Penny Oliver was 3rd with 32.
The Ladies Inter Club Team entertained a strong Taunton and Pickeridge Team and went down 2-5. There were wins for Anita Butcher and Margaret Hawker.
Penny Oliver/Sue Needham gained the win with new members Alison Kay and Louise Scott combining well for a half.
Eric Jordan is certainly the man in form winning with his partner, from Saltford, with 44 points. Second on count back were Martin Sutherland and Partner with 43 beating Simon Brand and partner on count back. The best score by a Mendip pairing was 43 by new members Alan Kay and Antony Scott.
Seniors Captain Alan Edwards was delighted to announce that funds raised on the day for his Charity, Prostate Cancer, amounted to £318 boosting the total raised to an amazing £8,600 so far this year.
When visiting Bath they gained an honourable draw with wins for John Ellis/Alan Snow and Colin Davies/Jeff Walkden with halves gained by Steve Davis/Martin Osborne and Kevin Carmody/David Pilbeam.
11-year-old Ffion Richardson playing in the 18 hole event won the best Gross and 15-year-old Polly Jones won the Stableford event with 13-year-old Connie Cox 3rd. In the 36 hole main Championship event, Ellen Reakes came 5th.
A further Somerset Golf Union Junior event was played at Long Sutton over 9 holes and Mendip’s Henry Lewer only lost out for 2nd place, on count back.
The Pro Shop Nearest the Pin was won by Dean Lewer with Matt Bendall 2nd and Scott Butland 3rd.
