Mendip Golf Club held its Club Championships over a wet and extremely windy weekend. Remarkably the Course held up to the extreme weather and eighty men and eighteen ladies valiantly completed their 36 holes.
The Mens Championship went to Scott Butland with a 4 over gross score which included a gross 71 on day one - a new course record, an amazing achievement in the conditions. Ian Parham was second just two shots behind with Jordan Vaughan a further three shots back in third place.
The Frost Cup, the Net Championship, went to ten-handicapper David Jukes with a fine net 138, 4 under par, young Alec Roberts again played extremely well to finish second Net , two under, with his brother Ben Roberts third at one over net.
The Ladies Championship saw two fine rounds of golf from Ladies Captain Aimee Sawyer, including a one under par gross 74 in the worst of the weather on day one, to finish over the 36 holes just 4 over gross, with 154. Aimee’s day one score was also a new club record. Young Ffion Richardson played very well to finish just six behind on 160 with another youngster Connie Cox third. The Ladies net winner was Sarah James with a five under score of net 145 and the net prize runner up was yet another young lady, Polly Jones four over. Congratulations to Scott and Aimee for winning and especially for breaking the course records

The Ladies Alliance B Team fought hard but went down to Clevedon 5-9 with wins from Elaine P Richardson, Chris Williams and with a half from Jan Fukuyama. A visit to Thornbury produced just one win from Fran Davies and a half from Jenny Merrett. However the Friendly Team had a convincing win over Worlebury with wins from Alison Kay/Debbie Godwin, Allison Rumming/Annette Jobbins, Pauline Williams/Maggie Brain and a win for Ann Padley over the opposing Captain (Worlebury were a player short). Great to see Debbie and Annette playing in their first matches.
The Ladies Open Bowmaker attracted a good field of visitors who were very complimentary regarding the set up of the course. The first visitors prize went to a team, who regularly do well on their visits to Mendip, coming from Stockwood Vale/Ferndown Forest/Tickenham. They won with 82 points . Second visitors prize went to a Long Sutton Team with 78 and third prize went to an Isle of Wemore/Taunton and Pickeridge team with 75. First Mendip Team prize was won by Jenny Merrett and her playing partners from Orchardleigh with 81 and the second prize went to Lynn Cox/Sue Needham/Jinhee Page with 76.
The Seniors Rose Bowl Team had a fine win over Weston, on Weston’s own course, in the quarter finals of the Somerset Rose Bowl. Excellent performances from Chris Lindley/Gary Quin, Simon Wynn/David Braithwaite and Chris White/Martin Myers. They now progress to play Burnham in the semis on a neutral course.
The Avalon Seniors beat Cannington 3-2 , wins from Steve Davis/Dave Golledge, Chris Betenson/Andy Humphries and Gary Quin/Kevin Carmody.
The Seniors Friendly Team halved their match at Tidworth meaning that Mendip, having won the home leg, win the Tidworth Trophy for the third year running. Wins from Selwyn Rees/Colin Davies, Steve Davis/Andy Humphries, Gary Quin/Nick Inskip and with a half from John Ellis/Jim Scott.
