THE Men’s Avalon B team at Mendip Golf Club have recorded their first points of the season when going down to a narrow defeat 2-3 against Wheathill. A win came from Mark Smith/Trevor Messenger and halves from Steven Heal/Andy Humphries and Andy Neeve/Keiran Wiltshire.
The Ladies Courage Trophy, a Greensomes event, was won by Victoria Ham and Helen Roberts with a barely believable score of 47 points. Well done Ladies. Jane Ball and Susan Forshaw were 2nd with 41, after count back from Jan Fukuyama and Carol Howerd with Jo Espley and Jenny Merrett 4th with 40 after count back from Anne Collins and Louise Scott.
The Ladies Stableford saw a win for Jo Espley with 37 points. Div 1 went to Debbie Godwin with 35 with Chris Down 2nd with 34 and Janet Light 3rd with 33 after count back from Aimee Sawyer. Div 2 was won by Chris Williams with 37, Lesley Stone was 2nd with 36 and Suzie Howe was 3rd with 35, after count back from Pauline Williams.

Fiona Hassard and Carol King just lost out when playing away at Long Ashton in the 2nd round of the Bristol & District Handicap Foursomes.
The Ladies Friendly team enjoyed a fine win away to Wheathill 2½-1½ and this despite a torrential downpour during the event. Wins came from Pat Roscow/Leslie Stone and Annette Jobbins/Suzie Howe, with a valuable half gained by Susy Rudkin/Bridget Rylance.
The Seniors maintained their excellent run of good form with two home wins in a week. First up were Burnham when a 3½-2½ win was secured, wins coming from Martyn Russell (on his birthday) playing with Tony George, Paul Wood/Martin Sutherland and Simon Atkinson/Mike Snaith, Mike making a very welcome return to competitive golf after his recent knee replacement surgery and with a half gained by Phil Brocks/Keith Beasley.
This was followed by a fine win 5½-½ win over Enmore. Successful for Mendip were Tony Taylor/David Pilbeam, Andy Frampton/John Shakesby, Paul Godwin/Martin Sutherland, John Cross/John Brooksbank and Bryan Lewis/Ian Vincent and with a half from Paul Wood/Rob Richardson.
The Seniors also had an excellent win over Taunton & Pickeridge in the 2nd round of the Somerset Seniors Bowl competition with victories for Ian Perkins/David Braithwaite, Chris Lindley/Ken Webster, Kevin Keene/Nick White and Steve Davis/Chris White.
STOP PRESS: Hot off the Press I’m delighted to report that at Bath Golf Club, Libbie Dezis has won the 36 hole West of England Ladies Open Championship, this year, for the first time, played off the white tees. Her total of 157 was just 5 over par for the 2 rounds; very well done Libbie. Aimee Sawyer was 3rd, just 1 shot behind after losing 2nd place on count back. Entrants came from far and wide, including from some famous clubs and while Libbie currently plays off a 4 handicap there were 14 Ladies playing off handicaps between 1 and plus 3 - a very high standard of golf indeed. Libbie and Aimee continue to represent Mendip in brilliant fashion; well done girls.
