Following the recent Drive In of the new Captains, Mendip Golf Club is delighted to introduce the new Mendip Golf Club Men’s Captain Chad Patel.

Chad (pictured) played his golf for 20 years at Grange Golf Club in Coventry achieving a handicap of 11. In 2006 he moved to Somerset with his still current employers and for 10 years only played occasional social golf.

Chad joined Mendip in 2017 with a starting handicap of 14 and is currently playing off 16. He has played on the majority of course within 30 miles of Mendip and unsurprisingly holds his home course in high esteem. Chad’s nominated Charity for his year is Young Lives vs Cancer, a charity that supports children, young people and their families to find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. All funds raised will be donated to the Somerset region.

The Men’s Avalon A Team playing in Division 3 got their season off to a fine start with a halved match away to Enmore. With bonus points for away wins and halves that resulted in a match score of 8½ - 6 in favour of Mendip. Wins came from Ryan Sainsbury/Dani Annable Manzaneda and Team Captain Dan Allen/Spencer Pocock, with Tom Chapman and Tom Black gaining an important half.

108 Seniors supported the new incoming Seniors Captain Robert Miller on a very wet and windy day. With a shotgun start for the four person bowmaker this resulted in a large crowd at the end of the round to watch his actual Drive In, a shot hit with aplomb; thereafter the Clubhouse was packed with standing room only to witness the presentation of the Seniors Captain’s Jacket, his speech then the prize giving. The winning team were Andrew Ashman/Philip Bendall/Colin Davies/Stephen Smith with a net 58, 13 shots under par. There was a triple tie on 59 and after count back 2nd place went to David Braithwaite/Gareth Collier/John Ellis/John Toull.
