THE ladies at Mendip Golf Club played for the Granny Trophy, a hotly contested competition with the winner being the lady who is either a granny or a step-granny.

The best score on the day went to junior member Harper Howerd, with a fabulous 41 points. However, the trophy went to Philippa Brown with 39 points. Division 1 was won by Harper Howerd, Division 2 went to Elaine P Richardson and Division 3 went to Philippa Brown with 39 points.

The winners of the Arizona Shuffle were Corinne Durbin, Isobel Panton, Linda Papadopoullos and Sandra Hares with a fabulous 84 points, who were closely followed by Caroline Simper, Pauline Young, Bridget Rylance and & Jennifer Howarth on 82 points.

Seniors competition results: The Seniors played their 1st Order of Merit event for 2026, competing for the Memorial Trophy. The overall winner was Mike Snaith with 41 points. Winner of Division 1 was Mark Necker with 39 points, Division 2 went to Phil Brocks with 40 points and Division 3 was won by Norman Squire with 36 points.

Juniors competition results:The juniors held their 2nd Order of Merit event with Noah Hartley winning for the 2nd time, on this occasion with 42 points over the18 holes. Ted Huzal was runner up and junior vice-captain, Oscar Alexander 3rd with 37 points.

Match report: It was outing number six of the season for the Seniors friendlies and the first home game with the opponents being Kingsdown Seniors. On an overcast day with a very chilly north-easterly wind blowing The Mendip course was playing at its most challenging and, unfortunately for the visitors, it did prove too much of a test as the home team were able to enjoy a resounding 6-0 whitewash. This was a perfect start for the home set of fixtures for Seniors captain Paul Godwin and hopefully his "Green & White Warriors" can maintain this sort of form for the rest of the season!

Mendip Ladies played their first ICL fixture of the season away to Minehead. The team got off to a good start by securing a 4-3 win over the seasiders.

Lena Warren and Jennie Ahlberg played in the first round of the Somerset Ladies Centenary Plate against The Isle of Wedmore at Burnham and Berrow.

The Pickeridge Bowl team won their first round match against Bath, with a resounding 4-1 victory.

The first round of The Roger’s Cup was played at The Isle of Wedmore against last year’s winners Taunton and Pickeridge. The Mendip played excellently and won a close and well contested match 4-3.

Meanwhile, the Seniors held the annual ‘Seniors Captains Drive In’. With a full field of 124 players playing a Texas scramble, the winning team of Simon Brand, Richard Bull, Nick Parfitt & Gary Quin won with a fine score of 54!

New Seniors Captain Paul Godwin is raising money for ‘Teenage Cancer Trust’ this year with a variety of fund raising ideas, including the return of the ‘Bonus Ball’ and a unique ‘Golf Ball Donation’ idea.
