6-year-old Jaxson Perry shot the round of the day in the Wee Wonders South West Regional Qualifier at Farrington Park.

The 26 handicapper from The Kendleshire Golf Club, in Bristol, shot an incredible one over par gross 28 over the 9 hole Manor Course to beat the entire field of boys and girls up to the age of 12. Not surprisingly, Jaxson easily won his category of 5–6 year old boys to qualify for the Grand Final at St Andrew’s, Scotland, at the end of August.

Farrington Park success came the way of sisters Libbie and Frankie Dezis, who qualified for the final in the Girls 5–8 and 11–12 respectively.

Seniors

With temperatures hitting 30 degrees Celsius (that’s 86 degrees Fahrenheit in old money) the long awaited heatwave had finally arrived. For how long? Who knows! Competitors were playing for the Romaine Tantalus, which is a secured decanter in a small cabinet donated to the section some 15 years ago by former club and seniors’ captain, Charles Romaine. Some excellent scores were recorded in all three divisions, but the in-form Tony Thorp stole the honours with an outstanding score of 43 points.

Farrington Park members Phil Thompson, Don Perry and John Ward claimed victory in the three ball seniors open bowmaker. Their score of 93 points was good enough to beat 50 other teams for the win.

Men

Farrington Park’s brilliant England international, Josh Hilleard, has again been making his mark on the national scene.

This time, the England international left-hander reached the quarter final of the English Championship played at Ganton in Yorkshire. He was only eliminated by Charlie Strickland (Ham Manor) at the second extra hole after being three holes down at one stage.

He qualified in 27th place in the strokeplay with rounds of 71 and 75 at Ganton and Scarborough. He followed with three successive wins, two by 3 and 1 and the third 4 and 3, in the matchplay.

The Saturday Stableford was played on 23rd July. Some great scoring on a good day for golf and low numbers came into the clubhouse with Paul Gregory topping Division 1 with a terrific round assembling 41 points, followed in second by Chris Young on 38 points beating John Hogg into third on countback. Some fantastic scoring in Division 2 with outstanding scores from Mark Turner and Jamie Webb both on 43 points, with Mark taking the honours on countback with Dave Brain in third on 40 points. Division 3 was won by Paul Smith, with 40 points and in second place, Ian Jones on 37 points, beating Dave Collins into third on countback.

The Sunday Stableford was played on 24th July. The good weather continued with Andrew Crowley on 39 points taking Division 1, with Steve Kingman in second on 38 points and Mark Chandler in third on 36 points. A great day for Mark Bales in Division 2 with a winning 41 points, followed on second by Nick Jordan with 39 points and Simon Kidd in third on 38 points.
