It was a good week for Pat Cray in the Seniors’ section of Fosseway Golf Club.
He followed up success alongside Competition Secretary, Brian Phelps, in the Broadway and Smith Cup with second place in the February medal. The Broadway and Smith Gruesomes Cup competition is a very different contest, with a drive down the middle of the fairway unlikely to be of any use. After both players have driven, the other pairing in the group will choose the ball which they want their opponents to play. Phelps and Cray finished with a nett 67, with Bob Smith and John Williams in second place one shot behind and Allen Cheney and Phil Moody third, with 69.
Cray was one shot behind the winner, Mike Ricketts, in the February medal. Ricketts carded a nett 62 with Terry Button, the winner of the January medal third, having been nudged out of the runners-up spot on countback. Moody and John Waters are the new holders of the Guerwyn Thomas Trophy. They put together an outstanding round to beat Cheney and Pete Fitch 7& 6 in the final.
