THE Ladies' section at Orchardleigh Golf Club enjoyed their Lady Captain's Day organised by Susan Marshall.

The ladies went out in groups of four but playing in pairs. The format was Stableford and each pair could either add or multiply their joint scores on each hole whichever was the greatest, but if either didn't score, then there was no score on that hole. Three mulligans could be purchased before play for £5, so a little skill was required to decide when to play the mulligans to try to avoid a no score hole.

The winning pair Sonia Probert and Sarah Doble came in with a score of 84. In 2nd place with 79 was Ann James and Lin Handley and 3rd with 75 was Sue Chalker and her silent partner The Gnome! There were two chances for nearest the pin. The 1st division winner on the 7th hole was Sarah Doble and 2nd division was Carol Jenkin. On the 17th hole Anne Regler won the 1st division and Sonia Probert 2nd division with a birdie score.

The money raised from purchasing mulligans was £125 and the raffle raised £122, so a total of £247 will go to the Lady Captain's charity, the Royal British Legion.

At the end of July the ladies section competed in one of their annual competitions, The Val Stringer Cup. The winning team on count back with 90 pts was Sue Chalker, Susan Marshall and Rachel Priddle. The runners up were Sue Sweet, Diana Bullock and Sonia Probert.

The Jefferies Trophy, a mixed pairs 4BBB competition, was won by Ann and Steve James.

In the Bristol & District Alliance League Orchardleigh ladies lost their away match at Wells 4/10 and again away playing Clevedon B team, with the same score. In the Somerset Interclub league, Orchardleigh lost their recent away match to The Mendip 2 ½/4 ½.
